 STATUS OF UNIVERSITIES IN KENYA


Recognized Universities in Kenya
Public universities
These are established through institutional Acts of Parliament and are not currently subjected to the accreditation process of the Commission for Higher Education. They are:
1. University of Nairobi (UoN) - 1970;
A world-class university committed to scholarly excellence

2. Moi University (MU) - 1984;



3. Kenyatta University (KU) - 1985;
Kenyatta University Logo

4. Egerton University (EU) - 1987;


5. Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) 1994;


6. Maseno University (MSU) - 2001;
 Maseno University
 and
7. Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) - 2007.



Public University Constituent Colleges
University constituent colleges were each established in 2007 by a Legal Order under the Act of the university shown in brackets against it, after the requisite verification of academic resources by the Commission for Higher Education. These are:
1. Kisii University College (EU);
2. Chuka University College (EU);
3. Kimathi University College of Technology (JKUAT);
4. Mombasa Polytechnic University College (JKUAT);
5. Kenya Polytechnic University College (UoN);
6. Pwani University College (KU);
7. South Eastern University College (UoN);
8. Meru University College of Science and Technology (JKUAT);
9. Multi-Media University College of Kenya (JKUAT);
10. Kabianga University College (MU);
11. Narok University College (MU);
12. Bondo University College (MSU).
13. Laikipia University College (EU)
14. Chepkoilel University College (MU)
15. Karatina University College (MU)
